Fiber Arts
Ôøº Ôøº Like many people, I learned to knit and crochet from my grandmother. My neighbor taught me to make clothes when we were in high school. Then in art school, I took nearly as many classes in Weaving and other fiber arts as I did in Ceramics. Over the years I’Äôve made a lot of things with yarn & fabric, but it has mostly been for family and friends rather than for sale or hire. (One friend even gave me small floor loom, bless her.) Now it’Äôs a thrill to see do-it -yourself skills once again valued and shared. People are knitting and crocheting everywhere. Hooray! Ôøº Ôøº I rarely make the same thing twice. For me the fun is in the designing process. Recently friends have strongly urged me to write up the patterns for some of the things I’Äôve made. So I intend to do my best to comply. Some patterns may appear here, free. Others may be for sale at a very nominal cost in my Etsy shop, Zartworks, where I offer handmade fiber things from time to time as well as sculpture. Please visit my Fiber Arts Portfolio for info about the images here and other items. Patterns for some of the things on that page may become available if there is enough interest. Other things (particularly crocheted things like Baby Frank the goatlet, above) were made up as I went along, with parts re-done so many times I lost track (have you ever unravelled chenille over and over? Ack!) so there’Äôs no pattern for them.
